What is Astrology?
Astrology is a belief system that suggests a relationship between the positions and movements of celestial bodies (such as stars, planets, and the moon) and events on Earth, as well as human affairs and personality traits. It’s based on the idea that the positions of celestial objects at the time of a person’s birth can influence their life and character.
The foundational principle of astrology is that the alignment of planets and stars at the moment of a person’s birth can create a unique cosmic blueprint, often referred to as a birth chart or horoscope. This chart is divided into twelve sections, known as houses, each representing different areas of life (such as career, relationships, and health). Additionally, the positions of the planets within these houses are believed to influence various aspects of an individual’s personality and life experiences.
Astrology encompasses several different systems and traditions, including Western astrology (which originated in ancient Mesopotamia and Greece), Vedic astrology (which originated in ancient India), and Chinese astrology (which is based on the Chinese lunar calendar).
While astrology has been practiced for thousands of years and remains popular in many cultures, its scientific validity is widely disputed. Critics argue that there is no empirical evidence to support the claims made by astrology, and that its principles are not consistent with our current understanding of astronomy and physics. Nonetheless, astrology continues to be a source of fascination and personal insight for millions of people around the world.
